This Femme Fatale was suggested to us by
a visitor and fan of Java's Bachelor Pad. Here name is
Chelo
Alonso and during her heyday at the Folies Bergere in Paris, France,
she was billed as the "Cuban H-Bomb." (As you might remember, the Folies
Bergere is the same place that Josephine Baker made a name
for herself a few decades earlier.) Alonso took the Afro-Cuban
rhythms and dance style from her native land and mixed it with the classic
bump-and-grind. She was explosive as her nickname implied, but very few
Americans knew she existed until she started her movie career. She was
featured in several European movies including "Sign of the Gladiator"
(which also starred Anita Ekberg).
She was also in a film that most people probably have heard of--it was
a small Italian western called "The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly."
