"Cocktails in the Cantina"
The Evil Genius Orchestra, 1999
If
you had any doubts that Star Wars mania isn't the most powerful
force in the galaxy, then just grab a hold of this disc. All you'll have
to do is go to the new releases section of your favorite record store to
find this week's selection, Cocktails in the Cantina. It
takes all those compositions from the Star Wars score, puts
them in a martini shaker and serves them up with an olive. What does the
story long ago in a galaxy far, far away have to do with lounge music?
Nothing, except for the easy sale of a few thousand CD's. That's not to
say that the Evil Genius Orchestra haven't done their homework.
They know their lounge and know how to mix those styles with John Williams'
classic soundtrack. Cocktails in the Cantina features all
you favorites from the trilogy-plus-one including the always ominous "Imperial
March" done is a big swing mambo, the famous "Cantina Band" tune done Esquivel
style, and the "Parade of the Ewoks" ala Martin Denny. As a side note,
the model in the bad Leia slave girl outfit is adult movie actress Jasmin
St. Claire, proving once again that eyecandy is never bad when it comes
to lounge music.
