"No Strings Attached"
Those Darn Accordions, 1996
Those
Darn Accordions (TDA) are the revenge against every parent who made their
child take accordion lessons. This band is made up of no less than six
accordion players playing what can only be described as squeezebox punk.
The kingpin of this accordion posse is the tattoo covered, senior citizen
Clyde Forsman (that's him on the album cover). His playing is wicked and
his smoky, cracking, off-tune voice gives the record its soul. He doesn't
sing on every track, but the ones he does are the highlights of the record.
TDA play originals, (which are wickedly funny), old polka standards done
TDA-style, and the most intense, speaker-shattering rock covers you've
ever heard. No Strings Attached (their third release) features
two of these amazing covers, The Who's "Baba O'Riley," (with Clyde singing
the refrain "They're all wasted!") and the Rod Stewart 70's anthem "Do
Ya Think I'm Sexy?" If you want to find out more about TDA, check out their
very cool website. It's
filled with pictures, sounds, and everything you ever wanted to know about
Those Darn Accordions!
