"A-Haunting We Will Go-Go"
The Ghastly Ones, 1998
Ever
wonder what would happen if your left your stack of haunted house and surf
guitar records locked in a hot car too long and they melted together? Well,
my guess is that you would get something very close to The Ghastly
Ones. It's all the reverb-drenched surf guitar goodness of Dick
Dale and the Ventures mixed with all sorts of 50's
B-Horror flick fun. If you need a reference point, think about the theme
song to the classic TV show "The Munsters." In fact, The Ghastly
Ones would have made great guest stars on that show, or "Scooby
Doo," or even the TV's 60's camp-fest known as "Batman." This trio, dressed
in hipster undertaker outfits (and their vampira-esque go-go chickie eye-candy)
use their instrumental stylings to create a world of beach blanket mad
scientists and watusi-crazed robots. An album like this is, of course,
perfect for the Halloween season, but shouldn't be relegated to just that
holiday. The undead swinging sounds of The Ghastly Ones should
be on your hi-fi all year 'round. FYI, Zombie A Go-Go Records (the ones
who released this album) is the sideproject label of horror rocker Rob
Zombie.
