"In A Metal Mood: No More Mr.
Nice Guy"
Pat Boone, 1997
I
don't know exactly how this happened, but it did. One day Pat Boone,
Christian artist and an all around Mr. Clean, woke up one day and decided
to do a big band/metal album. There was hype, there was production, there
was even public appearances with Boone clad in leather and
riding a motorcycle. Recently, anyone who has come over to the real life
Bachelor Pad has been drawn to this album. Ever wonder how Ozzy's "Crazy
Train" sounds with female back-up singers and a horn arrangement? How about
Van Halen's "Panama" set to a Latin beat? "Smoke on the Water?" "Enter
Sandman?" "Stairway to Heaven?" These are all part of Boone's
"Metal Moods," moods which fall somewhere between a Vegas treatment and
musical entertainment on a Carnival cruise. The most interesting
thing about this disc is the upheaval it caused in Boone's
life. The MTV generation embraced him. His Christian fan base boycotted
him. Many of the stations that carried his weekly show dropped him. Some
even put up web sites to denounce him (like this one from Sister
Rossetta). Boone has since disowned this project and
in back in the good graces of his old fans, but we bachelors will never
forget Boone's journey to the dark side.
