"Look Around"
Sergio Mendes & Brasil '66,
1968
This
week on the Hi-Fi, a shot of lounge with a samba chaser. From Brazil way,
we bring you piano player and group leader Sergio Mendes. Mendes and Brasil
'66 took over where Getz and Gilberto left off (which is not surprising
since Mendes worked with Getz/Gilberto featured artist Antonio Carlos Jobim
in 1964). Joao Gilberto gave us "The Girl From Ipanema," Mendes and company
bring us their own sultry version of Burt Bacharach's "The Look of Love."
This album also do a half-way decent rendition of the Lennon/McCartney
masterpiece "With A Little Help From My Friends." This album was produced
by Mr. Tijuana Brass himself, Herb Alpert, who lends that hip south-of-the-border
flair to these swinging tunes. "Look Around" is just one of the nearly
50 recording that Mendes has done over his long career. So, if you want
that rockin' bossa nova, baby, then go no further than Sergio Mendes and
Brasil '66.
