"Spunk"
Swamp Zombies, 1993
Another
great neo-lounge band and an indie rock band to boot! This disc (on Doctor
Dream Records), from the California trio, is a few years old, but still
one of their best. (For those of you keeping track at home: they have recently
released their fifth disc "Scratch & Sniff Car Crash.") A mix of surf
guitar, high roller swag, monster matinee, beatnik snap, and 60's guitar
pop. Think of the love child of Link Wray and Man Or Astro-Man? With tunes
like "She's So Far Out She's In" and "I Love You, Etc," the Swamp Zombies
prove they are a band that knows your scene and digs where you're coming
from. Don't forget to groove on their cover the hipster anthem, "The Way
I Walk." Unfortunately, this disc doesn't have my favorite Swamp Zombie
song, "Unemployed" (from "Frenzy of Music & Action!"), which is like
a
trading card overview of everyone's favorite mass murders.
