"Ultra-Lounge Tiki Sampler"
Various Artists, 1999
If
you're new to lounge music or you just want a great sampler of what's out
there, this disc is a must have. It's a whirlwind journey through the cocktail
soundscape. Packaged in an amazing bambo/tiki cd sleeve (which, if not
mistaken, won a Grammy for best packaging design), this collections features
selections from many of Capitol's "Ultra-Lounge" series. This album contains
a total of 17 regular and six bonus tracks from other collections like
"Bossa Novaville," "Mondo Hollywood," "Bottom's-Up," and the very cool
"On the Rocks" (parts one and two). The reason
this disc, as well as all of the "Ultra-Lounge" discs, are so good is because
back in the Hi-Fi golden age, Capitol was the home to some of the best
lounge artists. All they had to do is go into their vaults and dig out
the best of the best master tapes. On this disc you have artists like Peggy
Lee, Louis Prima, Les Baxter,
Martin
Denny,
Jackie Gleason,
Juile
London, and many others. If you have checked out the
"Ultra-Lounge"
website, now is a good time to go.
