"The Best of Word Jazz, Vol.
1"
Ken Nordine, 1990
A
master of stream-of-consciousness audio recordings, Nordine made a name
for himself during the Beat Generation and is still going strong, producing
a weekly program under the "Word Jazz" name. The stuff on this collection
is his early, bare-boned material (some of the tracks are just him, his
words, and a jazz piano), but it's easy to get lost in the words. Some
of you might recognize Nordine's voice from the any number of tv/radio
commercials. It's good to know that a great voice can also be connected
to a great mind. Also, make sure and check out his ambitious and brilliant
work from the late 1960's, the concept album Colors.
