"Betty
(sic) Page--Queen of Pin-ups"
by Benedikt Taschen
Taschen, 1993
Here at Java's
Bachelor Pad, we can't get enough of 50's pin-up queen
Bettie
Page. Anyone who has seen her photos is automatically taken
by her charm and beauty. This book is a photo retrospective of her pin-up
days touching on all the major points of her brief, but memorable, career.
There are a generous amount of shots of her taken by Irving Klaw--both
the bright, playful shots and dark, fetish ones (the type that got Klaw
investigated by the U.S. Senate). There are also stills with her and Tempest
Storm from Klaw's "Teaserama"--one of the famous
few burlesque movies she did. Then the book touches (all too briefly) on
her appearances in girlie magazines, then moves to some of the infamous
"camera club" shots, and then to her modern-day revival. The book ends
with a few shots from Page's sessions with Bunny
Yeager including the famous 1955 christmas Playboy
centerfold. All in all, this is one of the best picture books out there
when it comes to capturing Page's pin-up magic.
